Mason tennis knocks off another conference opponent

The Mason girls’ tennis team is in search of perfection and so far this season they are serving up aces with an undefeated 8-0 record after disposing of league foe Princeton today by a final score of 5-0.

The Comets’ winning line up against Princeton consisted of singles’ players senior Lynn Kelly, freshmen Amanda Huser and Lizzy Kong. The winning doubles line up at first singles was senior Bailey Shurtleff and freshman Sneha Randila. The winning duo at second singles was juniors Neena Kapoor and Judy Xie. According to head coach Mike Reid, the Comets came in confident after a hard week of practice.

“We’ve been working a lot on getting to be better doubles players and getting to be more consistent with my singles players,” Reid said.

Today’s match against Princeton was a more relaxed environment, Reid said, especially compared to their close 3-2 win against Sycamore last Tuesday.
According to senior varsity player Lynn Kelly, Mason’s victory over Sycamore was a team effort that puts the Comets in the driver’s seat in the Greater Miami Conference.

“It came down to the wire, but everybody pitched in for that win,” Kelly said. “Everyone just rallied around each other.”

It may be early in the season but the Comets have aspirations that exceed winning a GMC title.

“We have a tough road, but we’re excited about it,” Kelly said. “This is the best team we’ve had, and we’re all ready for it.”
